a.      A, B, C, D-Grade Discovery Sunglass Hut Surf Ski Series Paddler

b.      Qualified surf lifesavers with current Re-Test.

c.   All must be Paid up with Canoe South Africa.

Safety Rules

1: All Paddlers to wear a lifejacket
2: All Paddlers to use a Leash
3: All Paddlers to carry a Cell Phone (Charged with an Active Simm card with a Min of R20 Airtime)

Branding Rules

1: All Craft to Display 2 Discovery + 2 Sunglass Hut Logos on front half of Ski.
2: All other Stickers removed from in front of the cockpit
3: All Paddlers to Wear Discovery Sunglass Hut Series Long Sleeve Paddling rashey.

2.   All Surf Ski Paddlers must be current Paid Up members of Canoe South Africa.

Race Rules

  1. Personal Advertising will be permitted as per the Canoe SA personal advertising rule.
  2. Personal Advertising may not clash with any of the following
    1. Discovery
    2. Sunglass Hut
    3. New Balance
    4. Hansa
    5. PowerAde
    6. All surf ski’s to display 2 Discovery Logos and 2 Sunglass Hut Logos in front of the Pedals.
  3. All other stickers must be removed from in Front of your pedals to the Nose of your ski.
  4. All Paddle blades to display PowerAde logos provided.
  5. Discovery Sunglass Hut paddling vests are mandatory for all paddlers.
  6. Paddlers to display correct CSA numbers on surf ski. Incorrect or incomplete numbers will result in disqualification from the race.
  7. Any Competitor who rides the wake of a motorised craft will be disqualified.
  8. Gloves may be worn.
  9. All Paddlers must wear a PFD(Lifejacket)
  10. All paddlers to use a leash 
  11. All paddlers must carry a Cell phone on their person for the duration of the race.
  12. Competitors will be allowed seconds to assist them on the beach. They should take care not to infringe the rules of the race by assisting competitors in the water.
  13. Any competitor who receives physical support or assistance or who enters one of the rescue craft, will be disqualified, with the exception of those doing so to repair their craft.
  14.  Time limits for each leg. (Skis to TOTI by 11:00; Skis to Brighton Beach by 13:30: Malibu Boards to Brighton Beach by 13:00) Time limits may be extended at the discretion of the Race Referee.
  15. The Race Referee may decide whether a competitor should be prevented from continuing the race at any time. The Race Referees' decision will be final and by signing the entry form, you agree to abide by this rule.
  16. A safety mobile phone number for emergencies as well as for notifying the Race Referee of withdrawals is`REX 072 501 8363. The onus is on the competitor to notify the Race Referee of his/her withdrawal. The costs of any search resulting from a competitor not notifying the organisers of his or her withdrawal will be borne by the competitor. (A helicopter search can cost up to R 5 000,00 per hour.)
  17. All paddlers must personally check in at the checkpoint table on the beach at Amanzimtoti, and may then continue immediatly .  Any competitor that fails to report to the safety checkpoint table will be disqualified.
  18. Registration will be from 05H00 - 05h50 on race day. Starting times will be as follows: -
    1. 06H30 Single Skis
    2. 07H00 Double Skis
  19.  The finish will be between two wobblies on the beach at Brighton beach.
  20. Paddlers must cross the finish line with their Craft.
    1. Double Ski – Both competitors must be with the craft
  21. Competitors must finish the race with craft they started with but they may change broken paddles at Scotttburgh or Amanzimtoti
  22.  The Race Referee may decide whether a competitor should be prevented from continuing the race at any time. The Race Referees' decision will be final and by signing the entry form, you agree to abide by this rule.
